How to add a Facebook Pixel to Shopify

Feeling a little overwhelmed and uneducated about Facebook Pixel? Here's some quick tips on what the standard events are, and how to pair a catalog.

1. The full list of Facebook Pixel standard events are:

Event Name Event Description
ViewContent When a key page is viewed such as a product page, e.g. landing on a product detail page
Search When a search is made, e.g. when a product search query is made
AddToCart When a product is added to the shopping cart, e.g. click on add to cart button
AddToWishlist When a product is added to a wishlist, e.g. click on add to wishlist button
InitiateCheckout When a person enters the checkout flow prior to completing the checkout flow, e.g. click on checkout button
AddPaymentInfo When a payment information is added in the checkout flow, e.g. click / LP on save billing info button
Purchase When a purchase is made or checkout flow is completed, e.g. landing on thank you/confirmation page
Lead When a sign up is completed, e.g. click on pricing, signup for trial
CompleteRegistration When a registration form is completed, e.g. complete subscription/signup for a service

2. There are two ways to pair a catalog with a pixel:

Business Manager

Follow these steps to pair a catalog with a pixel using the Business Manager:

  1. Go to business.facebook.com
  2. Settings page
  3. Choose "Product Catalogs" on the left pane
  4. Press "Associate Pixels" button
  5. Associate pixels with your product catalog.

Product Catalog Preferences API

You can use the Product Catalog Preferences API pair a catalog with a pixel.

3. Why Use Facebook Pixel?

"The Facebook pixel is a small piece of code that goes on your website. With the pixel, you can bring back website visitors, or find new people who will likely make a purchase or become a lead."
