7 Top Secrets You Need To Know To Get Unstuck In Your Business
What can you do to move your business forward when you feel stuck?
Starting with any idea is one of the biggest challenges. Being exposed to so many ideas of how to go about things and always thinking that you should launch your idea only when it is perfect.
There is also the issue of learning how to formulate a process for achieving your goal. Having a million-dollar idea is excellent, but how do you make it happen?
This can sometimes make people feel like they aren't moving forward.
I've been helping people get unstuck for over 25 years, which is a lot of time to think about what works and what doesn't. And one of the most important things I've learned is that specific strategies work for getting unstuck in any area of your life.
In this post, I'll share my top seven secrets for getting unstuck (including how to stop feeling stuck), so you can start moving forward again. Let's dive right into it:
1. Evaluate where you are.
As a business owner, you know that life moves in a forward motion. We thrive on completing the things we set out to do so we can move on to the next big thing. When we feel lost and without direction, we lose motivation.
It’s important to stop and evaluate where you are at this moment with your business and your goals for the future so that you can plan accordingly for what lies ahead of us and ensure our success moving forward.
You cannot move forward if you don’t know where you are now and where you are going; therefore, planning for this process will ensure your success moving forward!
2. Declutter your life.
Decluttering your life can be a great way to get unstuck. Decluttering will help you focus, get organized, and clear the clutter out of your life.
It also gives you more energy, joy, and money!
Sometimes it is a small thing to remove unnecessary or unwanted items from your space. If you have too much clutter in one area, move it out of sight so things look better.
Other times there are too many ideas. Do you jump onto new ideas before finishing the current one you are busy with?
Our brains can only hold so much information before it shuts down. And then, we tend to jump onto the next idea because we think we will achieve better success.
Here are two tips:
3. Stop the noise.
How many webinars, workshops, podcasts, Facebook groups, and other resources are you cramming into your day? If this is an area of clutter for you, trim it down and set a schedule. Decide on a frequency that works for you.
Listening to too much information creates a feeling of overwhelm!
- Rank your workshops, blogs, or podcasts and only attend the top session once a week.
- Decide what is important for your business to move your business forward.
- Don't try to learn everything at the same time. Learn one thing, implement and move on.
- You will be amazed at how much you can achieve.
4. Recharge your mind.
To recharge your mind, find a quiet spot and get comfortable. Take deep breaths, inhaling deeply and exhaling completely. Focus on your breathing and allow yourself to relax.
Once you’re relaxed, focus on an issue that has been bothering you recently. What is the problem? How has it been affecting your life and work? Write down any thoughts or ideas that come to mind as they occur—don’t worry about how crazy they sound! When something comes up that makes sense to write down, do so! If nothing comes up at first, try brainstorming solutions by thinking of different ways to help solve the problem (for example: “I could start working out more often”).
After relaxing and brainstorming solutions for your problems, take another look at what you wrote down before moving forward with the next step of this process…
5. Carve out time to really ‘be’ with your business.
When you carve out time to ‘be’ with your business, I mean, quite literally, time to sit and think, write down your ideas, or sketch out product improvements.
You may want to ask yourself if you are still passionate about your products or services or if you are trying to distract yourself. Are you bored with what you are doing now?
We should all be trying to recreate the passion!
I personally use my time traveling (Houston is a vastly large city, so I am ALWAYS driving) to think and let my mind wander. I keep the music off; I don’t listen to any news; I zone into my thoughts to recharge and hone in on the thoughts that develop.
I have found when you find that quiet time, those are the moments you come up with your best ideas.
Create a space and time for yourself when you can zone out.
Whether it is exercising, walking, or just sitting and meditating.
It is important to get that quiet time for your brain to become more creative.
6. Guide your focus
Earlier I talked about that feeling when you have so much going on that you end up treading water. We have all been there or are there right now.
It’s essential to guide our focus intentionally. Multitasking is great and beneficial, but it must be done correctly.
Try mapping out your big and small projects or tasks on priority, then working on one big project simultaneously with a few smaller tasks.
Sometimes, checking off a few smaller tasks before you spend real time on a larger project can help you feel more productive and give you the momentum you need to dive into the rest of your day.
Now you’re ready to focus on your big project. Break it down into smaller chunks. Use a project timeline and stick with what you assign.
If you set two tasks to complete on Monday, complete those, and don’t start on the following tasks until the next day of the assignment.
Soon you will feel focused and organized!
- Focus on the things you can control.
- Focus on the things that are important to your business and life.
- Focus on what matters to your business and life.
7. Ask for help.
If you’re feeling stuck and want to get unstuck, ask for help.
I know this sounds too simple to be true, but it really is the best way to move forward when things get tough.
You might wonder why asking for help is so powerful and effective in attracting abundance. What does that person do when you ask someone for help? They give their time and energy! And giving time and energy is one of the most valuable gifts we can offer each other.
If your arms are full and something starts slipping, would you let it fall, or would you ask for help from someone nearby?
I hope we can all ask for the same help in our businesses (and personal lives). It’s important to have someone in your life to give guidance, support, and accountability.
Generally, my rule on this is to keep the emotion out of it.
Your mentor shouldn’t be your significant other or business partner but someone in your industry with knowledge, experience, and maybe a different point of view.
This relationship can provide tremendous growth and advancement if you’re strategic about it.
Don’t be intimidated by reaching out to people. The least they can say is no, and you can move on.
Be clear and forthcoming about your intentions. Communicate and engage with your mentor.
Plan together.
You will forever forge a bond of success and growth!
So don’t let fear prevent you from reaching out—after all, it’s better than doing nothing at all! You might not know who should coach or mentor you yet—or even if they exist—but don’t worry: it’s easy enough to find them once you start asking around (and don't forget our handy list above!)
Remember: learning about yourself can be a slow-going process at times but trust us when we say there are experts everywhere waiting patiently for an opportunity like this.
Final: Remember, a feeling is a thought. Stop thinking the wrong thoughts, and you will stop feeling stuck.
The first step to getting unstuck is identifying the negative thoughts holding you back. If you're feeling stuck, ask yourself:
-
Am I thinking about how much time and energy this project will take?
-
Am I worried that I have to do everything myself?
-
Am I concerned about disappointing someone if things don't go as planned?
It can be hard to identify your negative thoughts if you've been doing something for a long time. But if you look at your life from an objective point of view, these kinds of thoughts usually stand out.
Here are some examples of negative thoughts:
-
This is too hard!
-
No one can do this but me!
-
It will fail anyway because no one likes me or believes in my idea/product/service!
Now, here are some positive thoughts instead:
- This is hard, but I know I will do it.
- I need to ask for help. I can share my tasks to finish the project.
- I will succeed. I believe in my product. I have done a lot of research and know there is a need.
Conclusion
From the outside, it can seem like a lot of work to be unstuck. But once you start to see the patterns in your own behavior and think differently about what's going on with your business, it becomes clear that getting unstuck isn't just possible—it's inevitable!
As you practice these strategies and gather momentum in your life, remember: that every decision is an investment. And every investment will pay off if we stay focused on our goals, keep our minds clear of clutter and distractions, recharge whenever we need it most (including from social media!), guide our focus towards what matters most...and above all else: ask for help when we need it most!
